Sazzad is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Before pursuing his PhD, he gained valuable industry experience across diverse sectors including project management, procurement, and renewable energy. Notable among his employers were Reckitt Benckiser Bangladesh Limited, Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), and DBL Group.

At the University of Iowa, Sazzad has immersed himself in various research areas such as liquid fuel combustion, nanofuel combustion, laser material processing, surface treatment, biomass gasification, and rare earth metal recycling.  His dissertation focuses on enhancing liquid fuel combustion through the use of eco-friendly nanoparticles to improve efficiency and reduce emissions, aligning with global sustainability goals. His research, alongside collaborative projects, has resulted in significant scholarly output and presentations at prestigious technical meetings.

Recognized for his scholarly achievements with awards like the Richard B. Stewart Award, Graduate College Summer Fellowship, and Graduate College Post-Comprehensive Fellowship Award, Sazzad also served as a graduate teaching assistant, refining his communication and leadership skills while guiding students in thermodynamics and energy system design courses.

Outside of academia, Sazzad finds joy in playing the drums, performing with his music bands, traveling, and playing soccer. His dedication to research excellence and diverse interests reflects his passion for making a positive impact both academically and personally.
